BBC Television was the first television channel the BBC owned opened in 1932. It later changed it's name to BBC TV and was soon called BBC 1 in 1964 after the BBC gained another channel, BBC 2.

Blue Peter began airing on BBC Television when it started, in 1958. The airtime was originally at 5:00pm on Mondays for around 15 to 20 minutes. In 1964, the show broadcast another show on Thursdays and was now on BBC 1.
